(Preparation)

You need to take antivirals before the treatment. A cold sore can appear during healing and slow it down.
(Healing)
Right after the treatment the lips are swollen and much darker than they will be once healed. Then small scabs form and fall off on their own.
Healing takes about a week, and the colour lightens by roughly half during it. The pigment keeps settling for a while after that.

Only once fully healed, when the lips are no longer swollen and the scabs have come off. Skip make-up for at least a week: it could get into the healing skin and infect it.
